Kane Brown is recovering after a frightening accident on the golf course left him with a concussion and 23 stitches, forcing him to cancel a planned performance in Nashville this week.
The 32 year old singer was set to take the stage at the Tight Ends & Friends concert on Tuesday, June 23, an event tied to Tight End University and presented by Sports Illustrated and Reese’s. Instead, fans got the news from an unexpected source.
Former NFL players Taylor Lewan and Will Compton, hosts of the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast, broke the story live at the event.
Compton told the crowd that Brown had been hit by a golf ball earlier that day and needed 23 stitches. He added, somewhat jokingly, that Brown was calling it a concussion, though he suggested the “football guys” in the room were skeptical. The hosts then asked for a lighthearted moment of silence in his honor.
Brown later confirmed the injury was very real. He shared a series of Instagram Stories showing the aftermath, including a photo of his bloodied ear with the caption “Shot in the head by a golf ball.”
A follow-up image showed his stitches, which he downplayed with the caption “Just a scratch.” In a more serious post, he wrote that doctors warned things could get worse over the following 48 hours, but that he was grateful to be alive.
Wife shares scary details from the scene
Brown’s wife, Katelyn, gave fans a clearer picture of just how close the call really was. She explained that the ball had not traveled a long distance and had lost speed before hitting him. Instead, he was standing close to where it was hit, meaning it struck him at much greater force than a typical stray shot.
She said the family received good news after Kane underwent CT scans at the hospital. There were no internal injuries and no skull fractures, with the damage being mostly external aside from a mild concussion.
Katelyn said the whole family felt a wave of relief once the test results came back clear.
Despite the scare, Brown is already looking ahead to his upcoming tour commitments. He was originally scheduled to fly to Wisconsin for a performance on June 25, but said he plans to travel by bus instead as he continues to recover.
His tour schedule includes a stop at Hoofbeat Country Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin, before heading north of the border for Country Thunder Alberta in Canada.
The injury meant Brown missed out on what turned into a star-studded night in Nashville. Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance, joining fiancé Travis Kelce at the event for the second year running.
Swift closed out the show with a performance of “Love Story” and teamed up with Lainey Wilson for a duet, joking that tight end George Kittle had personally requested the song. The night also featured surprise sets from Dan and Shay and Chase Rice.
Brown’s most recent album, The High Road, was released last year, and he recently opened his own bar on Broadway in Nashville called Kane Brown’s. Fans are hoping he’ll be back on stage and feeling fully like himself again very soon.
