A parking dispute at a North Lauderdale Walmart turned deadly this week, and the man involved has died from his injuries, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Bart Diguglielmo, 62, of Lauderhill, passed away after being shot outside the Walmart located at 7900 West McNab Road. The shooting happened just before 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30.
What Happened at the Scene
Broward County Regional Communications received a 911 call reporting gunfire in the store’s parking lot. Deputies and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews arrived quickly and found Diguglielmo suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators say the shooting followed a verbal argument between Diguglielmo and an unidentified woman over a parking space. Details released by BSO include:
- The confrontation started as a simple dispute over where to park
- Words escalated between the two before the woman opened fire
- A bystander captured part of the incident on a cell phone video
- Nearby Tesla vehicle cameras also recorded footage of the shooting
The woman did not flee the scene. Instead, she stayed behind and spoke with detectives, telling them she acted in self-defense.
Family Remembers Diguglielmo as a Veteran and Caregiver
Diguglielmo’s sister, who asked not to be fully identified, spoke about her brother’s life and character following his death. She described him as a devoted Christian and a gentle man who would never intentionally harm another person.
Diguglielmo served in the military during Desert Storm and later spent three decades working as a nurse.
His sister said the loss has been especially painful because Diguglielmo had an identical twin brother who died years earlier. She called his death “heartbreaking” and said the family is struggling to process how a routine trip to the store ended in tragedy.
Witnesses at the scene described chaos and confusion as the situation unfolded. One shopper, David Anderson, said he arrived at the Walmart to find the parking lot wrapped in crime scene tape and heard a woman yelling nearby.
Investigation Still Ongoing
Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting. Once their work is complete, the case will be turned over to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors will then decide whether the woman faces any criminal charges connected to the shooting. Because she claimed self-defense, the outcome could hinge on Florida’s self-defense laws and whether investigators find her account supported by evidence, including surveillance footage from the area.
No further details about the woman’s identity have been released as the investigation continues. Authorities have not said whether either party was armed before the argument began, or what specifically triggered the confrontation over the parking space.
This case adds to a string of recent violent incidents across South Florida, and community members are left asking how a disagreement over something as small as a parking spot could turn fatal so quickly.
