A recent trip to a local Winslow, AZ park turned into a frustrating afternoon for one mother, who took to Facebook to share her experience after watching a group of young children damage playground equipment and ignore requests from adults to stop.
The woman, who visited the park with her little sisters and her son, said several kids were seen carrying water from the splash pad over to the slide, turning it into a makeshift water slide.
She said the same kids told other children they were not allowed to use the slide at all. Nearby, a separate group of older kids piled onto the park’s new handicap accessible swings, equipment that was not designed to hold multiple riders at once.
What upset her most was the reaction from the children when adults stepped in. According to her post, when adults asked the kids to stop so other families could enjoy the park too, the children laughed and kept going.
She noted the kids causing the trouble were not teenagers, but mostly younger children between the ages of four and eight.
“This is exactly why it’s so hard for communities to keep nice things,” she wrote, adding that parks belong to everyone and need to be respected so they last for future visitors.
Community Members Share Similar Experiences
The post quickly drew comments from other Winslow, AZ, park visitors who said they had run into similar problems.
Alisia Renik said the behavior happens everywhere and that she often speaks up when she sees it.
“They let them run wild, it’s not gonna happen on my time. Either behave or go home,” she wrote.
Zaneta Caballero agreed that many parents simply are not paying attention to their kids. “A lot of parents don’t care,” she said, adding that some parents even laugh when their children misbehave in the neighborhood.
Diana Boyd shared a more personal experience, saying she left the park after other children made fun of her son, who is autistic and has ADHD. She said she now tries to visit during quieter hours to avoid conflict.
Other commenters described more serious incidents. ThrillingKale6735 said an older child, around age ten, was seen hitting younger kids at the park.

Beyond the equipment misuse, several commenters pointed to another ongoing issue at the park: litter. PrettyOwl6363 said she was disappointed to see trash left behind despite trash cans being available throughout the area.
Abbigale Mae said the root of the problem often comes down to supervision, suggesting some parents treat the park, splash pad, and even school as a form of daycare rather than staying engaged with their children.
Desiree Baca described an incident where she asked several bigger kids to get off the accessible swing, only to be told they did not have to listen to her.
As the discussion continues online, many residents say the message is simple. Public spaces like the Winslow, AZ, park belong to the whole community, and keeping them enjoyable requires everyone, kids and parents alike, to treat the equipment and each other with basic respect.
