A coordinated police operation in Athens, Georgia, has led to three arrests after officers uncovered a significant stash of weapons, drugs, and cash during raids on two properties last week.

The Raid

Members of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department’s gang unit carried out searches at two locations on Friday, June 26. The targeted addresses were in the 200 block of Rocksprings Court and the 100 block of Madison Avenue.

The operation was the result of an ongoing investigation by the specialized unit into suspected gang activity in the area.

What Was Seized

Officers recovered a substantial amount of contraband during the searches. The haul included:

  • Seven firearms
  • 1.5 pounds of marijuana
  • $17,339 in cash

Police have not said whether any of the seized weapons were reported stolen, and it remains unclear if the investigation will lead to further arrests.

The Suspects and Charges

Three Athens men, all in their late teens and early twenties, were taken into custody following the raid:

  • Jaylen Brown, age 22
  • Tedero Phillips, age 21
  • Doukyius Clark, age 19

All three face a lengthy list of charges. These include violating Georgia’s Street Gang Act, possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony, possessing marijuana with intent to distribute, and possessing marijuana with intent to distribute within public housing.

Authorities have not released booking photos of the men, and the case remains under investigation as police continue to look into the extent of the alleged gang’s operations in the community.

The arrests mark another step in the department’s broader effort to crack down on gang-related crime in Athens-Clarke County, an initiative that has drawn attention from residents concerned about the presence of firearms and drug activity in residential neighborhoods.

Local officials have not indicated whether the case will be handed over to state or federal prosecutors, but given the nature of the charges, the men could face significant prison time if convicted.

The Street Gang Act, in particular carries serious penalties in Georgia and is often used to pursue enhanced sentences when weapons and drug distribution are involved.

Community members are encouraged to reach out to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department if they have information related to the case.
